Congratulations Aly!
We are delighted to announce that VPW Tier 7 Swimmer Aly Plecash has been named Western Canadian Athlete Representative to Synchro Canada’s Athlete’s Council. Way to go Aly!
Aly in her own words…
“A daughter, a student, a sister – who am I – an athlete, a swimmer, a friend. I am a ‘melange’ of my mother’s hugs, salty, sweaty swim suits and copious colour-coded anatomy notes.
My name is Alyson Plecash and I have just been selected as one of the two Western Representatives on the Synchro Canada Athlete’s Council. Synchronized swimming has become such a piece of who I am in the four years I have been involved in the sport that it is hard for me to imagine myself without it. To not know the sickening stench of hot Knox gelatine, or the inherent fear implied in simple words like runthrough or tiger-sprint, seems amazing to me now.
I wasn’t always a swimmer. In fact I trained most of my life as a rhythmic gymnast. Currently I swim on the tier 7 combo team and a senior duet for VPW in Vancouver. I am a second year Human Kinetics student at UBC, and spend my multitudes of free time – that all us swimmers have of course – volunteer personal training, lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons.
As an athlete rep, I am responsible for sharing the ideas of BC athletes with the rest of Canada. The Athlete’s Council meets to discuss issues a couple of times each month, so send me your ideas and suggestions to bring up at meetings. After each meeting, I will send out a review to all of you so that we stay connected with each other and with the ideas of swimmers nation-wide. I am open and very chatty (much to my coaches’ chagrin) so please feel free to contact me at any time if you have ideas or questions, or are just looking to get more involved in the sport. Dive in, the opportunity is yours!
Swim hard, swim fast.
