Congratulations to VPW’s High Performance Coach, Kara Kalin. It was announced at the Canadian Open Opening Ceremonies yesterday that Kara has been appointed Assistant Coach to the Canadian National 13-15 Team, and she will be headed back to The Centre in Montreal this summer to assume this role. Way to go, Kara!
Also, VPW swimmer Liza Leusenko has been invited to try out for the Junior National Team, having placed 23 nationally in figures this morning. Best of luck, Liza! We are all cheering for you!
Stay tuned for more news from Calgary…
Parents of recreational and provincial stream swimmers (Aly’s, Heather’s, Danielle K’s and Christina’s) teams are encouraged to come to a meeting in the multipurpose room at Riley Park Community Centre on Monday May 2, from 5-6 pm. At this meeting we will explain what options exist for swimmers looking to stay in synchro next season. These options are dependent upon their age, their ability, and also their commitment to the sport. Some swimmers are driven and may even have Olympic dreams. They are likely ultimately headed for VPW’s High Performance group. Others are looking to enjoy the sport more for its fitness and social benefits, and a provincial stream may be better suited. Regardless, this meeting will let you know up front what your options are, and what commitments are involved as your daughter plunges ahead.
We will explain Synchro Canada’s age categories, and the differences between National Stream and Provincial Stream. You will learn what the costs are and what the training schedules look like.
Come with your questions and we’ll try to answer them all.
