VPW Athletes Fuel Ignite Program

Four VPW National Stream athletes are participating in The B.C.-wide IGNITE Athlete Development Program, created by Canadian Sport Centre Pacific. They include Kelli Gustaffson, Lauren Lacey, Jane McCulloch and Liza Leusenko (photo below) . Earlier this month, teens in the fields of softball, gymnastics, synchronized swimming, sprint distance swimming and sailing started this training program aimed at building a well-rounded foundation for those aspiring to national and international podiums. You can read more about the program in the South Delta Leader here, and spot our athletes in action in the YouTube Video below too.

Summer Ballet Training

Our high performance ballet instructor Maryna is offering ballet for sport training “Dance for the Win” this summer at Douglas Park Community Centre, and our coaches are very supportive of this training for all our athletes twelve and over. It runs Monday and Wednesday mornings throughout July from 9:30-11, and costs $128 for 8 sessions.  Program description is as follows:

“Lessons for all who are seriously involved in artistic sport (gymnastics, synchronized swimming, figure skating). Learn the elements of contemporary, classical and folk dance techniques while integrating sport components. Improve the necessary skills in sport development which will provide an opportunity to reach a high level of skill and conditioning. While training, increase flexibility, strength, endurance and cardiovascular abilities resulting in a beautiful body shape and posture. Emphasis will be on turns, jumping, coordination of movement, development of balance, leg positioning, ease and grace in execution of all elements and structured composition of Adagio combinations. With musical accompaniment, students will improve their musicality and rhythm – qualities necessary for high performance in competitive sports.”
