This Canadian team will represent the country at the 2012 Mediterranean Cup, July 19-22, in Spain.

Kara Kalin of Richmond, B.C. brings 13 years experience to the sport of Synchronized Swimming, both as an athlete and a Coach. She grew up in Calgary and was a member of the Calgary Aquabelles.  After she retired she coached for the Aquabelles for five years before moving to Vancouver to pursue her education. Kara has been a high performance coach with the Vancouver Pacific Wave since 2007 and is presently the Head coach of the club.  Kara was the assistant coach for the 2011 National 13-15 team and was an apprentice coach with the National Junior team in 2010. She is an NCCP Level 3 certified coach and is soon to complete her Level 4. She has her Bachelors Degree in Psychology a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and is a Chartered Professional Coach with Coaches of Canada.

The coaching staff is the same from 2011 who won two silver medals in solo and duet and a bronze medal in team at the COMEN Cup.

“Many of the athletes who will be part of this National 13-15 Team may also be representing Canada at the next Olympic Games”, said Synchro Canada’s Chief Executive Officer, Catherine Gosselin-Després.” This competition is then very important in the preparation of the future of our National Team program as we will start a new quadrennial on the road to the next Olympic Games.”

Synchro Canada’s 2012 National 13-15 Team athlete pool will be selected following the 2012 Canadian Espoir Championships, which will be held May 24-27 in Etobicoke, ON.

VPW is very proud of Kara and her accomplishments. We are also pleased that this commitment takes place in our off season, and that we can expect Kara back in the fall to resume her great work at VPW. Good luck Kara! Go for the Gold, Team Canada!

Swimmers should be level 5 and comfortable in deep water. There is no cost to do Learn to Sync, but you must preregister by contacting us.

Congratulations VPW High Performance Swimmers for a great showing at this years Canadian Westerns Synchronized Swimming Championships in Winnipeg March 28-April 1. VPW Senior athlete Courtenay Grant owned the top of the podium not once but TWICE with her senior tech and senior free swims, outpacing the competition by more than ten points! Way to go Courtenay!

VPW Junior team also reached the podium with bronze in Junior Team, and the 13-15s placed 6th in Team. Great job everyone!

Nevada Ulmer and Liza Leusenko both placed 4th in their solo categories, Kelli Gustafsson placed 6th and Seray Sefayi placed 8th.

Figures were solid all around, with VPW Junior athletes placing 4, 14, 15, 16, 17, 23, 34 and 39, and 13-15s placing 8, 47, 51, 62 and 78.

VPW wishes to congratulate all these athletes on a great meet, and to thank our coaches Kara Kalin, Danielle Hahn and Courtenay Grant for their hard work and dedication to all our athletes’ success!
